Children of Production (COP) kick off the debut set with rhythms and rhymes telling the tales of sex (“Get it Back”), getting’ that paper (“Getting Paid” ) and weed-how could these masters of the steel lung society not bring us some good old odes to the good ,greeny green(“Blazin’”, “Roll Up”). But its more than your standard hip-hop fare. COP ups the game with an invigorating, unique mix that includes elements of rap, funk, rock, world music and jazzy influence while maintaining true street credibility and musical integrity.
The real shinning stars here are the COP. These young road dogs have honed the craft into a tight ,reflective collection of true life saga. Steve Boyd has become quite the vocal arranger. Sativa, Kendra Foster and all of the vocalists and rappers contributing to the set display a swagger of confidence that could only have been gained down thru the years of touring with granddaddy George. Check Kendra doing her thang on “Get it Back” over a heavy percussive/conga beat.

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN: USA
DISC : 1
CONDITION: NEW
STOCK STATUS:INSTOCK
Inspired performances, thick, crisp production and smooth often brilliant vocal arrangements dominate throughout. Check out the lush, blackground choir oozing and crooning over a reworking of the Parliament classic from which their moniker evolved (“COP 06”). Indeed, not content with remaining passé as the often back-up musicians and singers in the current P-Funk All Stars nostalgic road act, they declare it to be a “New Day”. The sound is fresh, funky and very 2006!!
GC makes a couple of brief cameos here on the “Intro” and “Outro” (Dr. Funkenstein is still in his lab flowing), but it is truly a COP set. Talented engineer/visionary producers Rico Lewis and Steve Boyd construct the smokey urban soundscape (at times smooth and gritty) of which the COP waste no time in getting’ busy over. Lily Haydin joins the COP band and shows up in the musically organic mix on “New Day”. Check out Digital underground’s Shock G adding his magical thang along with Belita Woods sultry vocal yearnings on “No Secret”.
If you think these studio tracks are full of life and spirit here, wait ‘til you here ‘em live (COP recently opened P-Funk sets in several cities to rave reviews). Its astounding watching how these musicians chops have grown and evolved down thru the 90s and into the millennia. I feel as though I have watched them grow up on the road right before my eyes.
